Abstract The WWW, as a wide-spread and even growing platform for computer based communication, is an emerging source for empirical behavioral studies. Internet research extracts qualitative data from the Web on the basis of a limited amount of samples, or uses the Web to collect quantitative data by means of online-surveys. Exhaustive approaches that aim to extract qualitative data from a huge amount of textual discourse and conversations, are still a great challenge due to the difficulty of producing computer-generated qualitative data. Reductionist approaches to Natural Language Processing, based on syntax and semantics, mostly fail in respect because of the "fuzziness" of the discourse and the linguistic specifics of the Web communities of interest. Combining linguistic knowledge of natural languages with ethnographic studies gives new insights to computer-aided human studies. In this paper, we will present a process model for such an approach.
